Salvage Medical Association

Research & Publications

Evidence that advances practice.

Supporting better medical preparedness through research, technical guidance, operational learning and responsible collaboration.

What we publish

Five strands of knowledge work.

Everything SMA publishes is intended to be practical, transparent about its status, and clear about what is established, what is draft and what is still planned.

  • 01

    Technical Guidance

Practical guidance addressing medical planning, clinical governance, emergency preparedness and evacuation.

  • 02

    Industry Research

Research into medical capability, occupational hazards, remote medical support and operational preparedness.

  • 03

    Operational Learning

Structured learning from exercises, incidents and de-identified operational experience, subject to consent, confidentiality and legal requirements.

  • 04

    Standards Consultation

Draft documents, requests for comment, consultation timelines and summaries of feedback.

  • 05

    Industry Intelligence

Future reports exploring industry trends, capability gaps and opportunities to improve medical preparedness.

  • Library

Browse every entry in one place.

Search and filter the publication library by type and topic. Entries are clearly labelled until documents are published.

Our commitment

Rigour before volume.

Published evidence on medical care in salvage is limited. SMA would rather publish less, and label it honestly, than fill a library with material that overstates its basis.

Consultation drafts, feedback summaries and revision histories will be published openly as the programme develops.
