Salvage Medical Association

About SMA

Improving medical preparedness across international salvage.

SMA is being developed to support better medical standards, clinical preparedness, professional competence and collaboration within the international salvage industry.

Why SMA exists

Safer people. Stronger operations.

We believe the medical welfare of salvage personnel deserves the same rigour as the engineering of the operation itself.

SMA intends to develop voluntary industry standards, promote evidence-based practice, provide education, support professional development and, over time, offer medical assurance services.

Our status

Transparent about where we are.

Organisation in development

SMA is at a formative stage. It is not a statutory regulator, a formally recognised international standards authority or an accredited certification body, and it is not endorsed by the IMO, ISO or any other organisation. The commitments described on these pages are intentions that will be formalised as governance arrangements are approved and published.

Get involved

Contribute to the development of SMA.

Clinicians, salvage professionals, operators, insurers and researchers are invited to help shape the organisation's standards and programmes.
